Jeremy Moon

Jeremy Moon (1934–1973) was one of the most original voices in post-war British abstraction. Associated with the generation of artists represented in the influential Situation exhibition of 1960, Moon developed a highly individual language of colour and geometry that culminated in his celebrated shaped canvases. Although his career was cut tragically short, his work remains an important contribution to the development of British hard-edge painting during the 1960s.

Within Sharpe Fine Art’s exhibition narrative, Moving to Modernism – Arriving at Abstraction, Moon represents a decisive moment when colour itself becomes structure. His paintings and works on paper demonstrate a sustained investigation into balance, movement and the relationship between painted form and the surrounding space.
